Online: Statement of Purpose
NRC Online is intended to achieve three primary objectives that meet the needs of three functionally distinct audiences: non-members, members, and member-leaders.
General information
General information is intended primarily to meet needs of new members
and non-members who may be interested in joining NRC or learning more
about our mission, values, and activities.
Type of resource
General information materials are public access resources that
target members and non-members.
Rationale
It is essential that NRC Online provide a well-defined professional
image that effectively communicates our mission, values, and the scope
of our professional activities. Since most NRC members will be familiar
with such general information, these materials are intended primarily
for new members and non-members.
Organizational documents are intended primarily to meet needs of the NRC membership as a whole by providing information about NRC activities, awards, the membership, and publications.
Type of Resource
Organizational documents are public access resources that target
NRC members.
Rationale:
It is important that the NRC presence on the Web provide a convenient
and useful resource for the membership. Information about NRC activities,
projects, committees, and other matters of interest to the membership
will be posted. Most of the materials posted will presume some familiarity
with NRC as an organization. Introductory and general explanatory information
will be found in General Information materials.
Administrative materials are intended to meet needs of specially targeted
subgroups of the NRC membership (e.g., NRC officers, Committee Chairs,
and others) by providing access to working documents, collaborative workspaces,
and administrative databases. Pages that provide access to administrative
materials are password protected.
Type of Resource
Administrative materials are restricted access resources targeting
administrative needs.
Rationale
There are numerous administrative needs in a large professional organization
that Web-based technologies are well suited to address. Among the most
compelling of these needs is information management. In an effort to address
this important need, data management tools will be made available through
the NRC web site. The database provided will allow NRC officers, committee
chairs, and other designated individuals to enter data into NRC databases,
search those databases in a variety of ways, and retrieve documents and
other materials.
